Imperial College Analytics (ICA) is a web-based Business Intelligence tool, presenting management information to you, as a member of Imperial College London staff, via interactive role-based dashboards.
We are currently in the process of replacing this tool with Microsoft Power BI. You can find out more about Power BI by visiting our Power BI web page.
Why is Imperial College Analytics closing?
The tool that ICA uses, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), has been discontinued by Oracle. When support for this ends, we will no longer be able to keep this tool secure, and therefore we must close it.
Where can I get access to the new Power BI reports?
As content is moved over, access is being given to the same people who had access to the original reports. There are two ways to find this:
- Log into Power BI and go to the 'Apps' tab on the left hand side of the screen.
- Go to ICA and follow the link on the dashboard. All dashboards that have been replicated have a link to their replacement.
Is all content in ICA being migrated?
The majority of content is being migrated like for like (or slightly enhanced where possible).
The only content that will not be migrated in this way is access to historical student data. Some of this data is no longer useful and will not be replicated. For the remaining reports, these are being consolidated where possible. This should make it easier to find the information needed.
When will ICA close?
ICA will close once all the content has been migrated. This has made substantial progress, but there are still some outstanding items. Updates on this will be available via the Business Analytics Community of Practice.
Can I still get access to Imperial College Analytics?
Yes, access to ICA is given when a user needs to access dashboards within it as a part of their job role, or as part of the creation of a new set of reporting. For the latter, please see Business Analytics Services.
Where dashboards are already available, approval is required from the dashboard owner (i.e. the person responsible for the underlying data).
Requesting access to ICA
You should complete the Information Security Awareness Training before requesting access to a dashboard. To request access to an ICA dashboard, please go to ASK and then search for the form named Request Access to ICA.
We will seek approval from the relevant dashboard owner(s) and you will be contacted with the outcome. Guidance on how to use the dashboards is provided within the relevant dashboard.
You can access ICA through most browsers. You will need to use Zscaler for Unified Access.
How was Power BI chosen as the replacement?
Previously Power BI was selected as a compliment to ICA through a review exercise undertaken by ICT and analytics leads across Imperial. It has now become the market leader and usage at Imperial has increased significantly. It is a more accessible tool, allowing us to not just move ICA content over, but empower you to build dashboards to do more with data.
